G-protein-coupled receptor is one kind of membrane protein receptor, till now, scientists have found six catalogories: Rhodopsin like receptors, Secretin receptors family, Metabotropic glutamate receptors, Fungal mating pheromone receptors, Cyclic AMP receptors, and Frizzled/Smoothened family. Till now, scientists have already found hundreds of different human membrane protein.
G-protein-coupled receptors play very important roles of our bodily process, it is also must to make effectiveness of many medicines. It controls the processing of our sensory, like sight and taste. It also controls our emotions and immune system modulation. It is quite important for people to understand its structure and function since it is the target of drug-based treatment.
Recently, scientists from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin made a research to study G-protein-coupled receptors and arrestin, and had one important finding: G-protein-coupled receptors interaction which means the binding elements critical to arrestin.
As we know, Arrestin is very important to control our activities and signal transduction of G-protein-coupled receptors and some side-effect of drugs is caused by arrestin singaling pathway. By using the combination of computer simulation, scientists have found the loops within the C-edge of arrestin binds to the membrane. This observation will guide us to find how membrane affects the function of arrestin. If we can keep on researching the interaction of G-protein-coupled receptors and arrestin, it will help us to develop drugs with less side-effect. Now, scientists from Abebio have already started further research based on this finding. In future, we may have new drugs with better effect and less side-effect.
